U2 Nearly Scrapped ‘With Or Without You’ – Till Bono Intervened

“With or Without You” is one of U2’s most iconic songs – but once upon a time, the band nearly scrapped the tune before it was released.

While in the studio working on their 1986 album The Joshua Tree, U2 weren’t sure what to do with the song – but Bono insisted they keep trying, convinced it could be a hit.

Eventually, they found the right combination of sounds  – and “With or Without You” would become U2’s first-ever No. 1 single in the U.S.
