Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips

The scariest thing about trick-or-treating is the CARS. If you go out trick-or-treating, here are some safety tips to keep you safe!

  1. Walk defensively. Assume all drivers are staring at their phone, because they probably are. Kids under 12 should go trick-or-treating with trustworthy adults who can keep an eye on them.
  2. Drive even more carefully than normal. Don’t text and drive. Keep it under the speed limit. NEVER drink and drive. Back up out of driveways slowly. And pay even closer attention to your surroundings, especially in residential areas.
  3. Be careful with costumes. Glow sticks and reflective tape are a good idea. If your kid’s costume has a mask, make sure they can see through it. And be careful about tripping hazards. Pant legs and capes shouldn’t be too long.
  4. Maybe wait to eat that candy. All the excitement and running around can make candy a serious choking hazard. So consider making your kid wait until they get home before they dig in.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!
