Record Store Day has become a big deal, with major artists like Pearl Jam and Paul McCartney planning special releases for this year. But this Joe Satriani project might the most surprising – and head scratching – yet.

Satriani, the guitar wizard famous for his mind-blowing solos, will re-release his 1987 album Surfing With The Alien – without any guitar solos.

The double-LP will include both the original album and a “Stripped – The Backing Track” version of each song with the solos removed – intended to show off “the quality of the songs behind Satriani’s signature lead work”.

The album will be limited to 3,500 copies and will be out for Record Store Day 2019 on Nov. 29th.

Why would someone want a Joe Satriani album with no guitar solos? Do you still collect vinyl records?
