Forty-seven years after they first got together, Styx remains active with plans to record a 17th studio album.

That’s according to bassist Ricky Phillips, who says he and his bandmates will “absolutely” release a follow-up to 2017’s “The Mission.” He adds, “There are already ideas flowing, and as soon as we find a break — probably towards the end of the year — we’ll really start to formulate those ideas deeper.”

While Phillips says he’s not sure when the album will be released, he promises it won’t take as long as the last one. “The Mission” followed 2005’s “Big Bang Theory” — representing a gap of 12 years.
