Sriracha sauce is in short supply these days – and climate change could be the reason why.

Huy Fong Foods, the company behind the popular hot sauce, said in April that it had to stop producing sauce due to “severe weather conditions affecting the quality of chili peppers”.  The disruption could last several months.

Sriracha is made with special red jalapeño peppers that only grow in the southern U.S. and northern Mexico for about four months out of the year.  Severe drought in Mexico is harming the crop.
