Springsteen, Obama Discuss ‘Born In The U.S.A.’ In Podcast Finale

Bruce Springsteen and Barack Obama tackle one of The Boss’s biggest hits in the final episode of their podcast series Renegades.

The duo discuss “Born In The U.S.A.”, which Obama said has been “appropriated as this iconic, patriotic song” – even though Springsteen says the song is about “someone who has been betrayed by his nation”.

Despite its complex message, Obama said “Born In The U.S.A.” remains powerful because “its imagery was so fundamentally American”.

The episode will go live April 5th.

Have you listened to Renegades? What are some other songs that are popular despite having a dark message?
