Authorities in Southern California seized nearly 1,400 pounds of methamphetamine disguised as onions last week, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

The drugs were worth an estimated $2.9 million.

Sidney Aki, director of field operations in San Diego told CBS News, it was a “clever” attempt to try and hide the narcotics in and around sacks of onions.

A 46-year-old Mexican citizen who was driving the vehicle was arrested.

If you are a police officer or work retail, do you have a crazy story of someone’s attempt at stealing something that you still can’t believe they actually tried?
