Robert Plant Says Iconic Pose Was The Result Of Insecure Singing

With one hand on the microphone while arching his body backward, allowing his long, blond locks to gently sway under the stage lights, Robert Plant captured the hearts of many Led Zepplin fans over the years.

But now the legendary singer says he didn’t come up with the iconic pose in an effort to be sexy; he did it because he was insecure about his singing skills.

“I often did it like that because I didn’t really know whether I could hit the right peckin’ note,” Plant says. “I’d go as far away from the microphone just in case it’s not very good. Because you don’t know sometimes.”

Plant admits he sometimes falls back on the pose to this day, particularly when he performs Zepplin’s “Immigrant Song.” He says the song is so “ill-suited” for his voice that prior to 2019, he went 23 years without performing it live.
