Turns out those lucky numbers on the flip side of the fortune cookie paper slip really work. Just ask Charles W. Jackson Jr.

The North Carolina man, using the insert given to him by his granddaughter, hit it big on the Powerball, earning himself a cool $344.6 million.

Arriving Tuesday at the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters, Jackson opted for the $223 million lump sum payment, which he will spread some of the cash to charity.

Jackson initially didn’t even realize how much he won, and only on closer inspection did he learn the truth, joking with those at the news conference, “I said, ‘Dang, I got them all.”

Do you put much into what’s written in fortune cookies? How do you select your lottery numbers?
