As the death toll continues to rise from the massive disaster of Hurricane Helene, there are bright spots in stories like James White. He had about 15 neighbors in his house in 5 feet of freezing water and multiple pets.  After about two hours, White and two companions led everyone to safety with life jackets, and are now cleaning up after the water receded.

Vicki Hunter in Tennessee wasn’t as fortunate as she lost her husband. They were in their house when flood waters literally swept the whole house away. She was on the front porch but her husband was in another part of the house and couldn’t reach her. When the house started to break apart, she jumped to a rescue boat. Her husband, Jerry, jumped into the water as well but couldn’t reach the boat. She lost her dog too.

Ivanka Trump was on hand with Love and Light Foundation to help deliver 300 Starlink units to help those in North Carolina communicate with high speed WiFi.

 

Vice President Kamala Harris was in Augusta, Georgia announcing those with immediate needs from Helene will get $750, but only if they have their ID, fill out the application and submit pictures of damage. That will be tough for those that lost everything.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas revealed Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) “does not have the funds” to see Americans through the rest of this Atlantic hurricane season — after the agency spent more than $1.4 billion since the fall of 2022 to address the migrant crisis.
