James Hetfield: Metallica Once Attempted to Recruit Different Frontman

It’s hard to imagine anyone else fronting Metallica, but the band once had someone else in mind.

On the SiriusXM show ‘Mandatory Metallica,’ Hetfield said that John Bush from the band Armored Saint was originally being wooed for frontman.

“John Bush was a singer we got to know really well, [and we] really, really tried to get him into the band as a singer,” said Hetfield. “It didn’t work out.”

Hetfield added, “He was very dedicated and very in love with what he was doing with his brothers in Armored Saint, and we absolutely respect that.”

Can you imagine anyone else singing in Metallica? Who do you think would have been a good choice for frontman if James Hetfield weren’t around?
