‘I Couldn’t Pay My Rent’: Mary J. Blige Reveals She Had To Go on Tour To Pay Alimony Following Divorce

Mary J. Blige has a new song called, Rent Money.

The song is her personal experience about not being able to pay her rent.

Oh, she doesn’t mean before she got into the business, this happened after her divorce at the height of her career!

The inspiration for the song came from her public and painful divorce from her manager/husband.

In an interview with her very good friend, radio personality Angie Martinez she said, I had to give up all this alimony and I didn’t have no more money to give because he spent it all so I had to go on tour and make all the money back to pay the alimony.

She said she was left with not enough money to pay her rent.
