Former Journey Frontman Steve Perry Criticizes Musicians Using Auto-Tune

Former Journey singer Steve Perry recently shared his thoughts on the use of Auto-Tune in music.

“Auto-Tune has turned everybody into the same singer, which I think is tragic,” Perry said in a recent radio interview.

Comparing the styles of Barbra Streisand and Muddy Waters, Perry said that hearing different styles of singing is what makes the skill beautiful.

“Singing is the most primal thing — it really is a very primal form of communication,” Perry said. “And, obviously, it’s gonna be around for a while.” Which is why I’m not so happy that people are washing out this description we just talked about with Auto-Tune.”

Do you agree with Steve Perry’s thoughts on Auto-Tune? Do you think some singers are using Auto-Tune more than they may let on?
