SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – MARCH 24: Volunteers Margaret Baseley and Felicity Baker (R) prepare food items at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Burwood on March 24, 2020 in Sydney, Australia. The Parish Pantry provides food for the vulnerable twice a week thanks to donations from parishioners and other community groups. As the Australian Government introduces further restrictions to tackle the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Church rector Father James Collins fears those in need will miss out on basic necessities. He plans to continue providing to those in need for as long as possible while observing social distancing measures and hygiene standards as directed by authorities. Father James Collins says his goal is to keep everyone safe, calm, connected to God and connected to each other. The banning of indoor gatherings by Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Monday has seen the closure of a number of indoor venues, including pubs, clubs, sporting and religious venues, while non-essential and interstate travel has also been banned. As the number of COVID-19 cases in Australia continues to rise, further measures are expected. There are now 1887 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia and the death toll now stands at eight. Have you been ordering a lot of takeout during the pandemic? Good news – research shows it’s mostly safe.
According to the FDA, CDC, and USDA, food and food packaging are “highly unlikely to spread SARS-CoV-2”, according to “overwhelming” research.
The say the amount of virus particles theoretically picked up from touching a surface would be “extremely low”, and that no evidence of transmission from food or food packaging has been found in over 100 million COVID-19 cases.
How much have you been ordering out during the pandemic?
