The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has signed off on a new weight loss drug that promises to help obese Americans who are also suffering from at least weight-related condition.

Wegovy, which is manufactured by Novo Nordisk, can help shed pounds in overweight people with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol, according to the FDA. It’s administered through an at-home shot. “The FDA remains committed to facilitating the development and approval of additional safe and effective therapies for adults with obesity or overweight,” says FDA spokesman Dr. John Sharrett.

The drug, which is the first weight loss product approved by the FDA since 2014, works by mimicking a gut hormone that controls the regulation of appetite and food intake, according to the FDA. It makes people feel full when they’re eating, researchers say.
