Evanescence’s Amy Lee Wrote “Bring Me to Life” About Her Current Husband

Amy Lee has revealed the story behind Evanescence’s breakout hit “Bring Me to Life.”

In a new interview with Germany’s Sonic Seducer, Amy Lee explains that her now-husband was the inspiration for the song.

Amy Lee says the first verse’s lyrics, especially ‘How can you see into my eyes, like open doors’ came after Josh Hartzler asked if she was happy.

“And it took me so off guard, and I just felt like it pierced my heart, because I felt like I had been pretending really well, and it was, like, somebody could see through me,” said Amy Lee.
