The UK’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards will no longer separate its categories by gender.

The BRIT Awards announced Monday that it will combine its female and male artist of the year awards into one gender-neutral category.

Chairman Tom March said it was important to “evolve and aim to be as inclusive as possible”

The change will go into effect for next year’s awards show, set for Feb. 8th in London.

Should all awards shows do away with gendered categories?  What about non-music awards shows like the Oscars?
